PNG to JPG Converter
Choose a PNG file and save it as a JPG. JPG files are much smaller for photographs, which helps with uploads and web pages. Because JPG cannot be transparent, you choose the background color that fills any see-through areas. Everything runs in your browser and the image is not uploaded.

How to use it
Choose your PNG
Select a PNG file or drop it onto the box. The tool shows its dimensions and size.
Set quality and background
JPG is already selected as the output format. Use the quality slider to trade file size against detail, and pick the background color for transparent areas (white by default).
Convert and download
Select Convert, compare the new size with the original, and download the JPG.
Example: a screenshot that is too large to email
A 4 MB PNG screenshot of a photograph is over an email limit. Converting it to JPG at around 80 to 85 percent quality is likely to cut the size to a fraction of that with little visible change. A screenshot of text with sharp edges can look slightly fuzzy as a JPG, so check the preview.
What changes when a PNG becomes a JPG
JPG saves space by discarding detail, and it has no transparency.
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless: every pixel kept | Lossy: small files, some detail discarded |
| Transparency | Supported | Not supported: filled with a background color |
| Typical file size for a photo | Often several times larger | Smaller |
| Best for | Logos, screenshots, graphics with text | Photographs and web images |
Limits and limitations
- JPG is lossy. Detail is discarded when you convert, and converting back to PNG will not restore it.
- Transparent areas become the background color you choose. The result cannot be transparent.
- Sharp text, thin lines and flat colors can show fuzzy edges at lower quality settings. Use a higher setting or keep the PNG for those.
- One image is converted at a time, and very large images can fail if the browser runs out of memory.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your image is processed by JavaScript running in your browser and is not sent to a server. The page itself still loads from a web server like any website. This site can load advertising or analytics scripts, but only after you accept them in the cookie notice. They are separate from the tools, which never pass the files or text you work with to them.
What happens to transparent parts of my PNG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so the tool paints a solid background behind the image. It is white by default, and you can pick another color before converting.
What quality setting should I use?
Around 80 to 90 percent suits most photographs. Lower values give smaller files with more visible artifacts, so check the preview before you download.
Will the JPG look worse than the PNG?
For photographs the difference is usually hard to see at good quality settings. For screenshots with text or logos with sharp edges it can be noticeable, so compare the two.
