Read the result
See profit per order and the margin. A negative profit is highlighted so you can spot products that lose money after ads.
Example: a $35 product
Price 35.00, supplier 10.00, supplier shipping 4.00 and ad spend 9.00 per sale give costs of 23.00. Payment at 2.9% is 1.02 plus 0.30 fixed and a 3% refund allowance is 1.05, so fees are 2.37 and profit is 9.63, a 27.5% margin.
Limits and limitations
- Your payment provider and store platform changes its fees from time to time, and what you pay depends on your category, country, account type and sales history. The rates pre-filled in this tool are examples to show how the maths works. Always check Your payment provider and store platform's own fee page and edit the fields to match.
- Ad spend per sale is an average you supply. Real cost per order swings from day to day, so test a range of values.
- Taxes, import duties, currency conversion and subscription costs are not included unless you add them to Other costs.
- The result is an estimate for planning, not accounting, tax or legal advice. Sales tax, VAT, income tax, currency conversion and returns are not included unless you enter them as a cost.
Frequently asked questions
What should I put for ad spend per sale?
Divide your ad spend by the number of orders it produced. This is your cost per acquisition. The ROAS calculator on this site can help you work out whether your ads break even.
How much should I allow for refunds?
Use your own history. If you have no data, try a few values and see how much profit changes. It is your estimate, so the tool starts it at 0.
Are the pre-filled payment rates current?
Your payment provider changes its fees from time to time, and what you pay depends on your category, country, account type and sales history. The rates pre-filled in this tool are examples to show how the maths works. Always check Your payment provider's own fee page and edit the fields to match.
